about

Ned Myers was an American sailor who survived thesinking of the warship USS Scourge during the War 1812. He later told his harrowing story to author James Fenimore Cooper about the perfect storm that sunk both the Scourge and Hamilton in Lake Ontario near Port Dalhousie on Aug. 8, 1813. A total of 53 sailors from both ships died in the greatest single loss of life on the Great Lakes during the war.
